Don't worry, however, series creator Jeff Davis has assured fans that his exit does not mean Beacon Hills has seen the last of the brooding werewolf.
"Tyler Hoechlin decided he wanted more time to pursue movies," Davis informed Buzzfeed. "We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of Teen Wolf, and while he won't be a series regular anymore, I can say that you probably won't have seen the last of Derek Hale. We love him and miss him."
Derek underwent a startling transformation last season, essentially dying in order to quickly return as a new and improved creature of the night. Now able to transform into a full-fledged wolf at will, Hale will (hopefully) eventually return to show off his new skills.
"We did see him go off into the sunset in the last episode, but Derek could be back," Davis told Seat42F with a sly grin. "I wouldn't count him out."
