'Castle' Season 7 News: Seamus Dever Still Uncertain About Show's Future, Renewal Decision 'In Limbo' [VIDEO]
Season 8 of ABC's Castle is still up in the air, and even one of the show's stars doesn't know if its returning next year.
'Castle' Finale Delving Into More Rick & Kate 'High-Stakes Mythology'
Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan on Castle, spoke with TVGuide.com this week and revealed that he's still in the dark about whether or not the show will be renewed.
"It's been weird. The last five months have been limbo," Dever said. "I don't know [what's] going to happen, and, to be honest, no one has talked to me ... about next season. I'd like to have some answers because my family wants to know if I'm going to be employed. But right now it's really up in the air."
Beckett Scared She's Not 'Make A Difference' In The World on 'Castle'
Several of the show's stars are coming towards the end of their contracts, including Nathan Fillion (who plays Castle), Stana Katic (Beckett) and Dever himself. ABC has yet to make a decision on if Castle will return for season 8 in the fall so things are at a stalemate.
Dever said that the season 7 finale won't necessarily tie everything together, with a cliffhanger very likely.
"I think we are headed toward to some sort of cliff-hanger. We go back into the Beckett mythology and that might play strongly in the end," Dever said, adding, "From what I'm hearing, [the delayed renewal] is not from lack of want at the network level. They're very happy with the success of our show; it's just about getting everybody back to the table."
There are only a handful of episodes left of this current seventh season so a decision needs to be made soon, with renewals, cancellations and new season schedules occurring in May.
Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
