Michael Chiklis may not be able to return to FX's American Horror Story based on the latest casting news.

Lady Gaga Will 'Shock People' in 'American Horror Story'

Chiklis, who played Dell Toledo in American Horror Story: Freak Show, has been cast in a new NBC comedy pilot called Cuckoo. The actor has signed on to play the father in a new family sitcom for NBC alongside Cheryl Hines (Suburgatory).

Depending on if this show gets picked up for the upcoming TV season, this could mean that Chiklis will be too busy to return to American Horror Story. Assuming the series were to air in the fall, that would be in direct conflict with AHS, which begins in October every year.

'American Horror Story' Cast Talks Who They Want To Play In 'Hotel'

Assuming Cuckoo gets picked up and films this summer, Chiklis would likely not be able to appear in American Horror Story season 5 in any capacity, beyond a guest appearance.

Chiklis' performance in AHS: Freak Show brought an interesting male presence to a series often dominated by females, with the actor playing a strongman in the freak show who also happened to be a closeted homosexual.

In other casting news, AHS: Murder House star Connie Britton has been cast in Ryan Murphy's new anthology miniseries American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson. The actress will play Faye Resnick in the miniseries, which is expected to come out in 2016.

This comes as buzz that Britton wants to return to American Horror Story cropped up, with the actress saying she would "love" to return to that world. While this is a good sign that she might return to AHS one day, it is unlikely that she would also be in the upcoming fifth season.

So far there have only been four people confirmed to be starring in American Horror Story season 5, which is titled Hotel. Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson and Wes Bentley will all be part of season 5.

American Horror Story: Hotel is expected to begin in October on FX.
