Once Upon a Time star Colin O'Donoghue recently spoke about his character, Hook, and how everything he does is fueled by his desire to protect Emma (Jennifer Morrison).

O'Donoghue's Hook has been through all sorts of ups and downs with Emma throughout the run of Once Upon a Time. With the character just now entering into his happy ending with Emma, O'Donoghue told Access Hollywood in a new interview that Hook is concerned more than anything else with the Queens of Darkness coming to town and potentially ruining it.

Asked if Hook was frightened that the Queens of Darkness could threaten his happy ending (especially with him being a reformed villain), O'Donoghue said that "frightened" might not be the right word for it.

Regina 'Tempted' To Embrace The 'Dark Side' Again on 'Once Upon a Time'

"I don't know if frightened - Hook just wants to protect Emma at all cost and that's it," O'Donoghue explained, "because he allowed himself to care for her and once Hook does that, once he gives over to that, he gives 100 percent of himself to try and be a part of that relationship and to try and make it work so, I don't know if frightened--".

When Access Hollywood suggested that he might be "nervous" instead, O'Donoghue agreed.

"Nervous is probably the main thing, but he also is one of these people who believes that he can do anything to sort of -- to survive and can sort of manage to make things work, which in all fairness, in the past, he's sort of has really been able to kind of survive and get things to go his way -- except for killing Rumplestiltskin," O'Donoghue said, "So maybe he doesn't really get to do it that often, but you know what I mean."

It has been a consistent threat since the beginning of season 4B that Emma might be swayed to the dark side, but Hook and Regina (Lana Parrilla) are doing their best to protect their hero. Emma and Hook shared a touching moment in Sunday night's episode in which he admitted to Emma that she is his happy ending, with the lovers sharing a passionate kiss. Since Hook may still be classified as a villain, it is tragically possible that if the villains lose their happy endings, then he could too.

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
