After weeks of rumors, the History Channel has official renewed Vikings for a fourth season.

Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and his Norsemen won't sail off into the sunset following the raid on Paris. Instead, the Lothbrok clan and the residents of Kattegat will live to fight another day.

"Vikings has raided the hearts of both audiences and critics, establishing itself as one of the most compelling, visually stunning dramas on television," Dirk Hoogstra, EVP and General Manager of History & H2, said on Thursday. "We are so proud of our immensely talented cast and crew led by [series creator] Michael Hirst, whose intriguing storylines and pivotal arcs have the perfect balance of scope, smarts and bloodshed to keep our loyal fans watching and wanting more."

The announcement is far from a surprise, particularly considering casting announcements have already gone out for the fourth season. Set to start filming in early April, it is believed that the series will up the episode count from 10 to 16.
