It's being reported that former Detroit Lions star defensive lineman and actor Alex Karras has only a couple days to live due to a recent kidney failure. Since the incident, his condition is said to have deteriorated.

Karras has also been suffering from dementia and is one of a handful of former NFL player who is suing the league for treatment from the head injuries he obtained while on the football field.

Wife Susan Clark previously stated to Fox News that the 77-year-old is no longer able to drive or recall some of his favorite recipes, but was concerned about the safety hazards that are still present on the football field today.

"This physical beating that he took as a football player has impacted his life, and therefore it has impacted his family life. He is interested in making the game of football safer and hoping that other families of retired players will have a healthier and happier retirement," she said.

In a statement released by the team, Detroit Lions president Tow Lewand addressed the NFL great's unfortunate health status on behalf of the organization.

"The entire Detroit Lions family is deeply saddened to learn of the news regarding the condition of one of our all-time greats, Alex Karras. Perhaps no player in Lions history attained as much success and notoriety for what he did after his playing days as did Alex."

"We join his legions of fans from both sports and entertainment in prayer and support for Alex, his wife Susan, and his entire family during this most difficult time," Lewand added.

Karras was drafted was a number 10 pick overall out of Iowa in 1958 and become one of the league's premiere players at his position for 12 seasons. However, he is seemingly more recognized for his acting work on the 80's sitcom "Webster, in which he played a loving father. The standout also had a key role as Mongo in the 1974 comedy "Blazing Saddles," amongst other notable roles.
