Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough spoke about Bruno Tonioli's controversial comment to Charlotte McKinney this week, comparing it to some of sister Julianne Hough's blunders.

Tonioli told McKinney a controversial comment on Monday night's episode of Dancing With the Stars. After her performance with pro partner Keo Motsepe, Tonioli said, "You're never going to win the Nobel Prize for quantum physics, but you are easy on the eyes and you produce wonderful shapes."

While many fans found the comment to be unnecessary, Derek said in his TVGuide.com blog this week that sometimes the judges try to briefly give their comments and essentially make a mistake in their delivery.

"I don't think I'm gonna win a Nobel Prize either, but I think the judges try to say things to be clever and sometimes it comes out wrong," Derek explained. "It's happened to Julianne. She's trying to get her point across in a brief amount of time and gets flustered and it comes out wrong, or it can be misconstrued. We've all had that happen. I've learned not to take the judges' comments personally now, but I feel bad for the celebrities who are not used to that. They're putting themselves out there, doing something they've never done and are working really hard only to get crushed by a sound bite."

McKinney was eliminated at the end of the night.

Meanwhile, Derek is focusing on his new routine with celebrity partner Nastia Liukin. They will be performing the Argentine Tango on Monday and he admitted that he is finding difficulty setting the routine in line with their music. It remains to be seen if the pair, who have emerged as frontrunners at this point in the competition, can get it together for Week 4.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
