‘Days of Our Lives’ Cast News: Freddie Smith Leaving Role Of Sonny Kiriakis, Find Out Plans For Character’s Future [PHOTO]
His character is currently stuck in a pretty complicated love triangle, but fans may soon need to cope with the kind of heartbreak they didn't want to cope with after Freddie Smith exits Days of Our Lives as Sonny Kiriakis-effectively putting an end to those who ship WilSon.
Freddie Smith Sentenced For DUI
According to Serial Scoop, Smith already wrapped filming his scenes as one-half of the soap's gay power couple two weeks ago, and will appear on the soap throughout the next five months or so because the show tapes so far ahead.
It is unclear if Smith's departure will officially mean the end of WilSon, or if his role will be recast with a new actor. Will, his on-screen husband, was previously portrayed by Chandler Massey, who left the show in early 2014, and was replaced with current actor Guy Wilson-meaning a recast for Sonny could be entirely possible as well.
Freddie Smith Gets Into Car Accident
Neither NBC, Smith, nor any of his co-stars have yet to comment on the news.
Smith's potential departure could mean an unexpected end to his character's on-screen drama with Will and his ex-boyfriend, Paul (Christopher Sean), who showed up in Salem for surgery on his shoulder, and wound up coming between the spouses after sleeping with Will while he wrote a story on him.
Since the truth about Will and Paul's affair came out, Will and Sonny's marriage has been estranged, and there has been very little to suggest if they will survive the tension.
It is unclear if Smith's departure has anything to do with his current legal troubles stemming from a car accident last fall which saw his girlfriend seriously injured.
