Gabourey Sidibe greatly appreciated Kathy Bates' beard on the latest season of FX's American Horror Story.

Bates, Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson speak about the experiences with American Horror Story in a new interview for Emmy Magazine, featured below. Bates recalls a humorous moment on the set of American Horror Story: Freak Show, in which the actress played bearded lady Ethel Darling.

Bates admitted that it was interesting to "fall in love with wearing a beard every day," adding, "It was funny, I ran into Gabby Sidibe, she came in for a couple of episodes and she looked at me and she said 'yeah! I like that, it's the new black!'"

For Bates and fellow legendary actress Jessica Lange, the idea of doing horror after being classically trained in acting was also humorous.

"Jessica and I had a lot of conversations on the set about the horror genre," Bates says. "We used to laugh a lot about how we'd been classically trained and here we were doing slash and gore."

Not every star in American Horror Story is actually a fan of horror, ironically. Bassett admits, "I am not typically a horror fan. I get scared easily. Always have been; pillow covering the eyes!"

Paulson also isn't a huge fan of the genre, though she adds that the show is more of a blend of different genres.

"The horror genre's never really been my favorite, but I think there's a really extraordinary thing this show does which is sort of straddle a drama mixed with heavy doses of horror sprinklings," Paulson says.

All three actresses pose on the upcoming issue of Emmy Magazine. Bates, Paulson and Bassett have also all been nominated for Emmys for their work on the show, with Bates winning for playing Madame Delphine LaLaurie in AHS: Coven in 2014.

Season 5, titled American Horror Story: Hotel, is expected to debut in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
