Reds vs. Giants Live Stream, Watch Online NLDS @ 3:30 PM CT/4:30 ET
On the brink of elimination, the San Francisco Giants forced a Game 4 with their 2-1 extra inning victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. However, the Giants will still look to address their offensive concerns against the Reds on Wednesday, Oct. 10, as their top three pitchers have held San Francisco to a 2-for-43 performance at the plate.
While ace Johnny Cueto only faced one hitter before leaving with an injury, Cincinnati rotation fixtures Bronson Arroyo and Homer Bailey only allowed one hit apiece in seven innings plus.
In the short history of the Divisional Series playoffs, no National League club has ever come back from being down 2-0 in the best-of-five matchup. However, the Giants will look to be the exception to the rule and exploit Cincinnati's upcoming pitching concerns. Not only is Cueto out, but their slated Game 5 starter was supposed to be Mat Latos, who is currently sick. If the Giants do make it to Game 5, they will have their ace Matt Cain rested and ready to take the mound.
In Wednesday's game, veteran lefty Barry Zito (15-8, 4.15 ERA) will take the hill for the Giants against Mike Leake (8-9, 4.58 ERA), who was initially left off the playoff roster but will now replace Cueto. Although Zito is winless against Cincinnati this season (0-1) he does sport a 1.50 ERA in his two starts against the team. However, his career numbers in Cincinnati aren't as impressive - he's 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA in six trips to the mound.
On the other hand, right-handed Leake has done his best pitching on the road ( 4-4, 3.65 ERA). He struggled at his home ballpark, posting a 5.54 ERA with a 4-5 record. In his three years in the big leagues, Leake is 3-0 with a 4.18 in five appearances against the Reds.
