Robin Roberts Bone Marrow Transplant: GMA Anchor Leaves Hospital After 30 Days
Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts returned home after spending 30 days in the hospital, she announced on Twitter Thursday.
Roberts, 51, underwent a bone marrow transplant on September 20 in New York City to treat myelodysplastic syndrome (MSD), a disorder in which the bone marrow fails to produce enough healthy blood cells.
The syndrome was triggered by her cancer treatment.
"There's no place like home. After 30 days in the hospital I'm home," Roberts tweeted.
Roberts said her journey is not over yet.
"I am considered 21 days old. That's how long it has been since my transplant. Remember when you brought your baby home for the first time? Your precious bundle didn't leave the house much and you were careful that anyone who came in contact with your child was healthy," Roberts wrote on her GMA Blog.
"So I will still be resting away from GMA until I'm given the all clear, but sleeping in my own bed again feels like a big victory."
In preparation for her transplant (Roberts' sister Ann was the donor), Roberts underwent extensive chemotherapy.
Roberts beat breast cancer five years ago.
