'Awkward' Season 5 Premiere: Jenna To Decide Once And For All About Possible Future With Matty? [PHOTO]
Senior year and the time left at Palos Hills high will officially begin winding down this summer with the premiere of Awkward's final season, and fans will likely learn if their favorite on/off couple is truly going to be endgame during the show's final episodes.
Will Jenna & Matty Reunite In Time For Graduation?
According to TV.com, Awkward season 5 will officially premiere on Monday, August 31 at 9 p.m., and when things pick up post-spring break, everyone will have some big decisions to make--especially Jenna (Ashley Rickards).
The final season synopsis reads:
Ashley Rickards Opens Up About Struggle With An Eating Disorder
"Everyone has already decided what they're doing next year, and the new season will bring some big senior year milestones, including senior pranks, prom, and, of course, graduation. The end of senior year will also force Jenna to decide once and for all whether she and Matty (Beau Mirschoff) are meant to be."
Throughout the wildly popular show's run (which began in 2011), the 'Jatty' relationship has been a complicated one. The show's first season saw the two characters trying to figure out if it was worth going public with their feelings for one another, while the second season saw them both move on with other people (Jenna notably dated Matty's best friend, Jake --Brett Davern--). Season 3 saw the two finally emerge as a couple, only for Jenna to have a breakdown and cheat with Colin (Nolan Funk). The final season saw Jenna try to move on with both college guy Luke (Evan Williams) and sophomore Owen (Zak Henri), but her efforts were both interrupted by Matty's complicated romances with psychotic Eva (Elizabeth Whitson) and overachieving Gabby (Erin Westbrook).
It is currently unclear how exactly the show will end things for Palos Hills' favorite couple, but the show's official Facebook page seems to hint that Matty will be very much on Jenna's mind throughout the final season, with a photo showing the show's return as "8.31" with cut-outs of Matty's head plastered throughout the numbers.
