It can be difficult to separate truth from speculation when it comes to the upcoming season of FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, but here is everything confirmed so far.

Gabourey Sidibe Unable To Return To 'American Horror Story'?

Many cast and character rumors have swirled in the wake of the announcement of the fifth season of American Horror Story. Some cast members has officially been confirmed by American Horror Story boss Ryan Murphy himself while others are still just rumors.

Here is a comprehensive guide to what we know so far about American Horror Story: Hotel.

-Official cast members who will be in the season include Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley and Chloë Sevigny.

-Murphy has said that Bates' character is running the hotel.

-Paulson will play the "baddest bad girl," which is a departure from previous seasons.

-Peters' character has something to do with "Room 64," according to Murphy, though no further details are known about this.

-Bassett and Gaga's characters are involved with the ballroom and they will "cause trouble" there and elsewhere.

-Gaga and Bomer will be working closely with each other, with Bomer saying that their storyline is "unique" and "fun."

-Jessica Lange is not returning. Freak Show was her last season with the show.

-FX president John Landgraf said that season 5 will have an "unusually large reinvention" from season 4, compared to season 3's transition to season 4. He said that he hopes it will be set in present day.

-American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere in October on FX.
