Orange Is the New Black star Taylor Schilling is not a fan of celebrity culture and tries to keep her distance as much as possible.

Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman on Orange Is the New Black, spoke with Elle Canada recently as the cover star of its June issue. The actress admitted that she worries too much about what people think to go on the Internet.

"It has almost become a defiant thing at this point because I do not believe this celebrity Kim Kardashian culture is what I signed up for. I'd rather create something honest than try to create something for a social-media account," Schilling explained. "Besides, my brain is just way too fragile for both. [Laughs] I am susceptible to what people think; I think we all are. So it's just easier for me to not engage with it too much."

Schilling, whose character Piper is a lot more uptight than she is, spoke to the greater sadness of people who go on the Internet to be noticed.

"There is something so sad about going online and seeing almost everyone shouting 'Notice me, notice me!' Which is such a human desire-to be acknowledged. But me responding to that with some sort of 'You're noticed, you're seen' only perpetuates the loneliness," Schilling explained. "Because I'm not seeing you; I'm not noticing you. And whoever you are, you so deserve to be noticed and valued. I feel lucky to have not grown up with the Internet because it forced me to get out, struggle and be so messy."

Schilling did not reveal anything new about the third season of Orange Is the New Black, but fans can expect plenty of juicy material for her. Piper's ex-lover Alex (Laura Prepon) is returning to prison and it's always complicated when those two interact.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 is slated for release on Netflix on Friday, June 12.
