'Castle' Season 8 Renewed: Senator Bracken Coming Back Next Year? 'He Has Lots Of Friends' [VIDEO]
The new season of ABC's Castle may feature the return of important recurring characters of the past, like Senator Bracken (Jack Coleman).
Who Gets Hit By A Truck In The 'Castle' Season Finale?
ABC finally revealed that they were renewing Castle for season 8 last week. The crime procedural has been no the bubble through most of the season, with stars Nathan Fillion (Castle) and Stana Katic's (Beckett) contracts coming to a close. Now, Fillion has signed on for season 8.
Show creator Andrew W. Marlowe and fellow producer/wife Terri Edda Miller spoke with Us Weekly recently about the renewal and what it allows them to do as far as story.
'Castle' Returning For Season 8
Marlowe named the Senator Bracken story as something they may tackle again.
"We think that there's some storytelling opportunity with Senator Bracken, who's currently behind bars," Marlowe said. "But we know that he has lots of friends and allies out there. A lot of that has been laid to rest, but when you make an enemy that is that formidable, they reemerge, and they reemerge stronger and in unexpected ways."
The pair also talked about the idea of killing off Beckett assuming Katic doesn't sign her contract for another season. They both explicitly said that this was not happening.
"I think for us that's off the table. For us we've been telling a love story for the last seven years," Marlowe said.
"I think that would be a huge betrayal of our fans," Miller added.
Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
