The Brown family from Sister Wives could soon be headed back to court in their ongoing struggles with the state of Utah and their laws on plural marriage.

Brown Family's Legal Troubles Continue In Utah

According to Fox 13 Now, the state has officially filed its appeal of a federal judge's earlier decision which essentially decriminalized polygamy following a complaint by the Browns that the investigation into their lifestyle violated their religious freedoms and civil rights, causing them to flee to Nevada to avoid persecution. The State is asking that the bans on polygamy remain law in order to protect the institution of marriage.

"The State of Utah has through its Legislature determined that barring bigamy serves Utah's best interests," Utah Federal Solicitor Parker Douglas wrote in a filing with the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

"Utah additionally has an interest in prohibiting polygamy in order to avoid marriage fraud as well as to prevent the exploitation of government benefits for people with a marital status," he later added. "The Statute also assists the State's interests in protecting women and children from crimes such as statutory rape, sexual assault, and failure to pay child support."

The ongoing court battle is just one of the struggles facing the Browns recently, as they prepare for another potential battle over custody of Robyn's kids from her previous marriage during their upcoming sixth season of the show.

Season five saw Meri, Kody's first and only legal wife at the time, file for divorce in an effort to allow Kody and Robyn be the only legally married couple, freeing them up for the process allowing Kody to adopt the kids--Dayton, Aurora and Breanna.

Since then, many have also been speculating that Meri is planning to leave the family behind following her divorce from Kody, spurred by an array of Tweets she has posted which seem to hint that she's seeking something more from life after feeling unhappy about the situation.

Her latest tweet to arouse suspicions came on May 30, where she seems to be detail how she knows she deserves better than she may have received.

"I am worth it. Worth love, worth honesty & truth, worth the fight & determination, worth laughs and smiles, worth true happiness :-)" she wrote.

Sister Wives season 6 is expected to air sometimes this fall.
