'Agent Carter' Season 2: Diversity Is An 'Important Subject Of Debate' Moving Forward, Hayley Atwell Explains [VIDEO]
Agent Carter thrust Marvel's strong women into the spotlight, but actress Hayley Atwell is hoping to bring a whole new level of diversity to the series.
The ABC series came under fire last winter for it's very white cast, despite making major strides in female representation. As season 2 approaches, Atwell is hoping to spearhead Agent Carter's move towards a more diverse cast.
"We talked about diversity in Agent Carter, and that's gonna be a very important subject of debate for the second season, from my part anyway," Atwell explained at Comicpalooza in May. "I feel lucky that Marvel has given me this opportunity and built the show around me. Around my strengths as an actress, but also my values. I'm slowly infiltrating Marvel going, "Where are the women? Lets have people better represented.' I will do everything that I possibly can to support the cause."
Perhaps the series' jump from 1940s NYC to post-WWII Los Angeles will allow the Marvel program to bring in a vast new cast of varied characters into the fold.
