The second half of Awkward's final season will bring at least one more additional new face that could either greatly change or help propel some of the show's standing characters endgames.

Jenna May Sport A Drastically Different Look After College

According to Carter Matt, former Glee and Malibu Country star Justin Prentice will be joining the show in its 2016 back-half, in the role of Patrick. Patrick is being described as a 'globe-trotting Princeton student who could end up being wither a confidante or a love interest for Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed).'

Not much else has been revealed about his role, but he is the second new addition to the cast for the second batch of episodes, following the news that Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett would also join the show in the role of Ethan, a sharp, articulate, late-20s wordsmith whom Jenna (Ashley Rickards) meets while working at her summer job, though it's unclear if he'll prove to be a friend or a foe.

Jonathan Bennett Signs On To 'Awkward'

The second half of the show's final season on MTV is set to pick up one year after everyone from the Palos Hills gang has picked up their lives and gone their separate ways for college, seeing them all as they reunite for the first time back home afterwards.

The new castings could be a way to potentially throw some final wrenches in the works for two of the show's most endearing couples, especially when the female characters who will interact with them are taken into account.

'Jatty'-also known as Jenna and Matty (Beau Mirschoff) have been an on/off couple throughout the show's run, and many expect they will be each other's endgame when the series wraps up--but the role of Ethan could be the final hurdle they have to climb over to finally make their way back to one another. Similarly, 'Jakara'--Tamara and Jake (Brett Davern) broke off their romance after their junior year, though fans have hopes to see the two reunite at some point. If Patrick proves to be a love interest for Tamara, he could be an obstacle for that relationship as well--or a sign that a Jakara reunion won't happen.

Awkward season 5 premieres August 31 on MTV.
