The TCA Awards did not nominate FX's American Horror Story for the first time since season 1.

Will 'American Horror Story' Star Sarah Paulson Finally Win An Emmy This Year?

On Thursday, the TCA (Television Critics' Association) Awards announced their nominations for the 2014-15 TV season. Among shows nominated for this year include Fox's Empire, Amazon's Transparent and HBO's Game of Thrones.

One show missing from the lineup is American Horror Story: Freak Show, the fourth incarnation of the horror anthology series. While the organization did not nominate American Horror Story in season 1, they did nominate Asylum and Coven for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials for their respective years.

Overlooking Freak Show suggests that critics just weren't fans of the fourth season, which is saying something considering it's been a slightly weaker year for movies and miniseries. Those nominated this year include HBO's Bessie, SundanceTV's The Honorable Woman, HBO's The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, HBO's Olive Kitteridge and PBS's Wolf Hall.

Ultimately, this is in line with what critics and fans alike felt about Freak Show. While the season certainly had its fair share of fans, the response overall was on the negative side compared to past seasons like Asylum. Our own Enstars poll asking which season of American Horror Story is the best had Freak Show in dead last.

It remains to be seen if the overall critical response will reflect in the Emmys later this year, but the Television Academy has shown in the past that they are more favorable to the show than any other awards group.

The fifth season of American Horror Story premieres in October on FX.
