'American Horror Story' Cast 2015: Finn Wittrock Hopes To Play Someone 'The Opposite Of Dandy' In The Future
Finn Wittrock had a lot of fun in FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show, but he is looking to play a different type of character in the near future.
Wittrock's performance as petulant man-child Dandy Mott in Freak Show was one of the more notable of the season. The actor's flamboyant performance earned him a Critics' Choice TV Award nomination and he is receiving Emmy buzz as well.
The actor spoke with CarterMatt about the role of Dandy and how it changed his career.
"It's kind of that thing where the more you talk about it, the more you realize what it is," Wittrock admitted. "A lot of stuff that you do unconsciously when you're filming it, sometimes after you get some perspective on it you're like 'oh yeah, that's what I did' (laughs). You can articulate it. If it's a movie or a show or a part that I get sick of, sure [it would be hard]. But I had so much fun doing this and it was so stimulating ... I'm sure that by the time the Emmys are over I'll be like enough Dandy! (laughs), but it was so cool. First of all it opened so many doors for me, and as an actor it was such a fun, challenging stretch as a character."
Going forward though, Wittrock is hoping to expand his acting chops even further and play an entirely different character from Dandy.
"I'm always wanting to find a thing that is somewhat of the opposite direction of the thing I've done before," he explained. "I am looking to do something ... whatever the opposite of Dandy is (laughs.) Maybe something gritty and masculine. We'll see. You kind of don't know until you see it. I'm sure that [AHS co-creator] Ryan [Murphy] has something up his sleeve."
This may sound like an admission that Wittrock will be in the next season of American Horror Story, titled Hotel, he previously told TVLine that he is working with Murphy on a project in general, not necessarily a new season of AHS.
It remains to be seen if Wittrock will score an Emmy nomination this year but American Horror Story has done very well at the Emmys since the first season, so his chances are good. Emmy nominations will be announced Thursday, July 16.
American Horror Story: Hotel premieres in October on FX.
