Looking to maintain their status as the only undefeated team left this season, the New York Knicks (3-0) will host the nearly flawless Dallas Mavericks (4-1) at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The Knicks are sporting their longest season-opening winning streak since they started off at 7-0 in 1993-1994.

The matchup will feature a reunion of sorts for Jason Kidd who will face off against his former team for the first time since being acquired by the Knicks. The 39-year old spent the last four-plus seasons on the Dallas squad, and even contributed to the Mavs 2010-2011 NBA championship run along with current teammate Tyson Chandler. New York signed Kidd to a three-year, #9 million dollar free agent contract during the offseason.

The move is paying off big time with the Knicks point guard averaging 9.0 ppg off the bench. Although Kidd only put up 3 points in Monday's 110-88 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers, he did kick off the home- and-home set against the club with a 12-points and six assists in the Knick's 100-84 win on Tuesday.

While Kidd has given New York a legitimate veteran presence on the roster, Carmelo Anthony has been the ring-leader of the team's attack averaging 26.0 ppg and 7.3 rebounds. Anthony has also been a key factor of the Knicks' improved defense, in which the opposition is averaging a mere 85.3 points and 40.7 percent shooting

Mike Woodson had the opportunity to speak to CBS Sports regarding Anthony's superb play along with the rest of the team's importance as a whole.

"I'm trying to get Melo to do everything. I don't want him to be perceived as just a scorer. Melo has been defending for us. He's been rebounding for us, and that's what he's got to do. It's not just Melo. We gotta have 13 guys doing the things to help us win," he said.
