Actress Jessica Lange recently spoke about being on FX's American Horror Story and how it was a unique situation at her age.

Lange, who recently left American Horror Story after four seasons, spoke with Deadline about her time spent with the horror anthology series and much more.

"I mean they'll continue and it'll be great." Lange said when asked why she was leaving the show after four years. "You know, when I originally agreed to do this, it was for one season. [I thought] 'this will be interesting to try this. I've never done this kind of television before.' Then I had such a great time doing it the first year, when they approached me to do it again I thought, 'well okay, maybe we can do it season to season.' Instead, I agreed to do three more seasons. And that was fine because I've had just such a great time doing it. I have no regrets or second thoughts about that decision. But there's always an end to everything."

Through her time on American Horror Story, Lange has gotten to do many great things that any actress would dream of doing. She play nosy neighbor Constance Langdon in season 1, strict nun Sister Jude in Asylum, Supreme witch Fiona Goode in Coven and German-born freak show owner Elsa Mars in Freak Show.

For the 66-year-old actress, getting the opportunity to play such big characters again, like she did in her prime, was an invaluable experience. Lange discussed what happens when women in Hollywood get to a certain age and how the work tends to drop off.

"What was great about these four years is that it reminded me of the kind of work that I was doing when I was in my thirties and forties. Those huge roles. It was kind of like inexhaustible, bottomless. I mean what you could do. And well written with really something to play," she said. "I mean, this last season, it was just huge. It was a great role - one of the best I've ever had. I really hope that [AHS co-creator] Ryan [Murhpy] and I can continue some kind of work situation, but I did feel like four seasons for me was probably enough of this particular piece."

A whole new generation was introduced to Lange through American Horror Story, and her awards mantle is getting heavier too. She has picked up two Emmys for her performances in the series, as well as a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

Next up, Lange will be working with Murphy again but this time on a Broadway stage. They are collaborating on a new adaptation of Long Day's Journey Into Night in 2016, where Lange will play the role of matriarch Mary Tyrone, a role she has played in the past.

American Horror Story: Hotel is set to begin in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
