Doctor Who fans should not despair when it comes to Captain Jack Harkness' future.

'Doctor Who' Season 9: Female Lead Considered In The 1980s, What Went Wrong?

It is known that the Face of Boe (John Barrowman) lived a long, long life, and it stands to reason that the Torchwood leader would cross paths with his time traveling pal far more than he has. Unseen in Doctor Who since David Tennant's reign came to a close, the invincible Captain is still alive and well in the wider Who universe and could be slatted for a long anticipated return to the small screen.

"The popularity of Captain Jack has not decreased around the world, it's actually gotten stronger and we're doing some audio plays that are coming out a little later this year," Barrowman informed the Ipswich Star (via Den of Geek). I have to be honest, one person who's keeping Captain Jack alive is John Barrowman because I'm plugging him, promoting him and making sure he's kept out there. Because one day he will return. I think [the writers] would be very silly not to bring him back."
