In the first season, Morello seemed like such a nice woman in the prison compared to some of the others, but the truth was eventually revealed. Morello received her own backstory in season 2, delving into how her delusions caused her to believe she was engaged to Christopher, a man she only met once.
Stone spoke with The Daily Beast about that reveal and the overall psychology of Morello.

"It's one of [OITNB creator] Jenji Kohan's great tricks," Stone said. "'Here's this super sweet character. Oh, she's talking about her wedding! Oh, she's super easy to relate to!' And suddenly you realize she's only being nice to Piper [played by Taylor Schilling] because she's white. And it's not racist. It's tribal. What does that mean?"
Stone further explained that she thinks "delusion is a really big part of her world. I actually think Lorna is kind of sick. And so deeply uninspired in her real life that it might suffocate her if she had to live it."
This delusion includes her dolling up her hair and makeup everyday
"I can barely manage to get nail polish on my hands for an interview, and she's putting on her face in prison," Stone said. "Something's not quite right. She's putting this man up as a touchstone that everything's going to be OK."
While Stone did not get another flashback episode in season 3, she was bumped up to series regular status, making her an official member of the cast.
Orange Is the New Black season 3 is currently available on Netflix, as are the first two seasons.
