Ruby Rose did not see the widespread positive response toward her presence in Netflix's Orange Is the New Black coming.

Rose, who plays androgynous new inmate Stella Carlin in the third season of Orange Is the New Black, recently spoke with The Huffington Post about how the Internet has responded to her, particularly the amount of straight women posting memes about how they've "turned gay" because of her.
"I was not expecting it, to say the least," Rose said. "My manager was like, 'You're like a viral sensation.' And I'm like, 'That sounds like an STD.'"

The model/actress has embraced the messages about "turning gay" though some of her friends aren't exactly big fans of that phrase.
"I have a couple of friends who don't feel very warm towards it," Rose said. "They're like, 'Are you offended?' They personally are offended by it saying like, 'You can't just choose to be gay. You should say something about all these women that are saying [they're] turning gay or realizing [they're] gay.'"
However, Rose said that ultimately we as a society have come a long way in terms of supporting LGBT issues and that the messages shouldn't be taken literally.
Rose just wants everyone to be able to express themselves however they want.
"I, personally, think that the moments we try to nitpick who can and can't say that they are genderqueer or gender-neutral or trans, or who's gay or who's bi -- who are we to tell other people how they can live their lives and what they can tweet and what they can say?" she said. "It's really none of our business. I think we should let people go and say what they want to."
Orange Is the New Black has been a very progressive show as far as depicting the LGBT community, and Rose's presence in season 3 is keeping in the vein.
