'Game of Thrones' Season 6 News: Show Creators Talk 'Unpredictability' For New Episodes, Will More Major Characters Die? [PHOTO]
The season five finale of Game of Thrones broke records when it came to viewership, and season six may be getting set up to be another record-setting episode for the series.
The Five Most Shocking Moments From The 'GOT' Season 5 Finale
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed their hopes for the show's legacy after it ends, and also dished on how much they hope to surprise fans in the new season, which will be unknown territory until George R.R. Martin publishes The Winds of Winter.
"I'd like to think the unpredictability of the show relative to the books where sometimes the show cleaves to the books and sometimes it departs from the books creates a kind of separate-if-obviously-very-closely-related universe that can coexist," Weiss said. "You can't dictate people's reactions but I hope there's an element of surprise introduced into the show's narrative that makes it exciting for both people who read the books and people who watch the show and haven't read the books yet."
A Stark Death Occurs In 'Mother's Mercy'
Of course, fans of both the series and the books won't be the only ones in the dark about the new season--and considering the season five finale, which saw the shocking deaths of several main characters and left many others with their fates completely up in the air--even members of the cast have admitted that they're worried about the new season, which begins production in July.
Maisie Williams, who portrays Arya Stark, revealed in her own interview with the magazine that she is concerned about her character's fate following her going blind in the season five finale.
"I don't want to wear these crazy contacts for the rest of my time on Thrones!" she said. "I don't know how...that will impede her life. She's going to become very vulnerable thanks to that. It's exciting and scary. So I'm worried about next year."
