'American Horror Story' Season 5 News: 'Hotel' Will Be 'Darker, More Disturbing' Than 'Asylum'
It's looking like American Horror Story: Hotel might be the darkest season in the show's history.
Sarah Paulson Reveals What 'Real Housewives' Star She Wants In 'American Horror Story'
American Horror Story director of photography Michael Goi recently took to Twitter to reveal that Hotel, the show's fifth season will be very disturbing.
"Darker, grimmer, more disturbing. Yes, even more than 'Asylum'," he wrote, when responding to a fan question about the tone of Hotel.
As AHS fans know, Asylum is perhaps the darkest season ever due to its grim tone. If Hotel is even darker than that, then we are in for a wild ride. The past two seasons of AHS weren't as horror-centric as the first two seasons. Coven delivered a campy tone over anything else, while Freak Show mostly just felt like a drama with horror elements thrown in.
The cast of Hotel is comprised of many AHS actors of the past as well as a few new stars. Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Finn Wittrock and Denis O'Hare are all returning for the new season, while previous guest stars Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley and Chloë Sevigny are returning as well. New stars to the show include Lady Gaga, Cheyenne Jackson and Max Greenfield.
Hotel will be set in the present day, just like previous odd-numbered seasons Murder House (season 1) and Coven (season 3). The show goes back and forth between period and contemporary, with Asylum (season 2) set in the 1960s and Freak Show set in the 1950s.
American Horror Story: Hotel premieres in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
