Wayward Pines could receive a second season...with a different cast.

'Wayward Pines' Fox: Is Plot 33 An Escape Hatch? Abandoned Land Is 'Key' To Final Mystery

Fox is eyeing Chad Hodge's adaptation for renewal, according to Deadline, but there is a good chance the original actors wouldn't be available should the deal go through.

The problem stems from the sheer amount of time the network had Pines waiting in the wings. Picked up in the spring of 2013 and filmed that fall, the Twin Peaks-esque series didn't make it to air until long after the actors' committal period had come and gone.

Matt Dillon (Ethan), Carla Gugino (Kate), Toby Jones (Pilcher), Shannyn Sossamon (Theresa), and Melissa Leo (Pam) all currently have a slate of movies in the works.

Luckily, when Hodge decided to leave the door open for continuation in the finale, he put all major storylines to bed. Exploring the mysterious hamlet with different leads will be fair easier if viewers aren't continually wondering if Ben (Charlie Tahan) gets a girlfriend or not.

"There's a hint of [continuation], but Wayward Pines was always designed to be just these 10 episodes," Hodge told to TV Line in regards to the finale. "So the promise that we've been making - which is that there's a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes - is a real promise and we deliver on it."
