The start of the impending zombie apocalypse is going to be a big shock to the central characters on the upcoming Fear The Walking Dead.

Loved Ones Go Missing On 'Fear The Walking Dead'

In a new sneak peek clip for the companion show, the beginning stages of the event which will eventually consume a large portion of the population are definitely being brushed off by Madison (Kim Dickens)--who seems to continue being aloof about the events going on around her and not piecing it all together.

"A lot of kids out sick today," the principal of the school she works at says to her in the clip. "Thought you were another victim."

"No, I got my flu shot," she replies.

The sickness that has been running through of course is anything but the flu--but no one has yet caught on to the disease being related to something so much bigger and deadlier than a typical flu.

The show, which picks up on the action in Los Angeles that fans did not see on the Georgia based The Walking Dead due to lead Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) coma, will be establishing the action as the illness begins to take over and everyone becomes a potential victim. Because the outbreak won't be introduced in the same way, fans will be seeing a different sort of show from TWD when it begins.

"Ultimately, it's a family drama," showrunner Dave Erickson told Entertainment Weekly. "One of the things that Robert [Kirkman] and I discussed from the very beginning was, we're starting a little earlier in the apocalypse. And what that allowed us to do in the pilot and season 1 is establish our core family, establish the problems and the conflicts that they have, and really let that be the initial world that we live in. And we layer in the onset of the apocalypse, we layer in our first walkers, but it's really an effort to exacerbate the problems that already exist with Kim Dickens' character and Cliff Curtis' character an their sort of dysfunctional blended family. It's really filtering the apocalypse through that."

Fear The Walking Dead premieres next month on AMC.
