Price is Right Model Brandi Cochran Wins Suit Against Show, Awarded $777K
Brandi Cochran, a former model of the CBS' hit show "The Price is Right," was awarded $777,000 by jurors today after a two-year legal battle.
Cochran, 41, claimed the show's producers discriminated her because of her pregnancy. She claimed that producers did not hire her when she returned from a maternity leave in 2010.
"The Price is Right" producers say they were satisfied with the five models working on the show and that was the reason why they didn't hire her. They want to appeal the juror's decision and be "fully vindicated."
"We believe the verdict in this case was the result of a flawed process in which the court, among other things, refused to allow the jury to hear and consider that 40 percent of our models have been pregnant," a statement by FremantleMedia said.
Cochran said that in 2007 she got pregnant while she was working for the show and was scared to let her coworkers know because she feared losing her job, according to TMZ.
Eventually she claimed that the pregnancy ended in miscarriage due to severe stress. Us Magazine reports that one producer told Cochran that losing the baby was "nature's way of getting rid of a bad baby."
Cochran reportedly got pregnant again in 2008 and was the subject of producer's insults.
A second phase of the trial will determine if the former model should be awarded punitive damages. Cochran's attorneys had asked for more than $8 million, according to City News Service.
