Four weeks after losing its first game of the season, the No. 6 Florida Gators (10-1) once again find themselves back in the national title picture. However, it won't make much of a difference unless the Gators can find a way to defeat their rivals in the No. 10 Florida State Seminoles (10-1) on Saturday for the first time since Tim Tebow was their captain in 2009.
Although the previously top-ranked Kansas State and No. 2 Oregon suffered tough losses last week against their opponents, Florida pulled out their third consecutive victory to climb up to fourth in the BCS.
Looking to play in their first national championship game since obtaining their second title in three years in 2008, the Gators need a victory along with a couple of scenarios to turn out in their favor. A USC win over No. 1 Notre Dame would help them out immensely, as would losses by Georgia and Alabama.
Despite the team's high hopes, Florida coach Will Muschamp did admit to ESPN that their ideal wishes might indeed be far-fetched.
"Huge if. We've got to take care of business Saturday, and really any clutter outside of just focusing on the game doesn't really matter and to me. Let's understand what's at stake and what's important, and focus on the game."
Signal caller Jeff Driskal will be back on board as the starter versus Florida State after sitting out the team's 23-0 win against Jacksonville State last week. The quarterback had suffered a sprained ankle in the third quarter of the game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 10.
