The film adaptation of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey” continues to generate buzz on a massive scale.

One notable actor that keeps coming up for the highly-coveted role of Christian Grey is none other than “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson.

While James has frequently dismissed the idea of using the actor, the character he played in the popular vampire franchise is what the author loosely based her story off of. In an web interview with MSN, the “Twilight” star was asked if he’d want the lead role of the S&M-crazed billionaire Grey. Pattinson jokingly gave the following response:

“I am playing that part. I also wrote the [’Fifty Shades’] book.”

Pattinson was also recently asked if he’d ever be interested in penning a book of his own, according to Books & Review.

“Surely something along the lines of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ " he said. "I would really like to do that and put a spin on it by inverting the casting roles: making the woman the one who is punishing the man. It would be so much fun. Something like ‘Misery’ … but really he loves to be in that situation, you know?”

Pattinson aside, web rumors has also brought some other respected actors into the prospect pool as potential Grey suitors, including "Gangster Squad's" Ryan Gosling, "White Collar's" Matt Bomer, "Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill of "Man of Steel."

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" storyline revolves around recent college graduate Anastasia Steele, who gets herself into a dominant and submissive sexual relationship with the rich and kinky Grey. Through an "agreement," they both explore the world of bondage and masochism

Up until this point, James and the producers of the future film have remained quiet on what the casting protocol will be. Only time will reveal who ultimately walks away with the high-profile roles of Grey and that of his sexual partner and love interest. Although screenwriter Kelly Marcel was recently attached to pen the screenplay, no release date for the flick has yet to be announced.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features bought the rights to the "Fifty Shades" feature earlier in the year. The saucy novel has now sold over 20 million copies to date.
