Jovan Belcher Dead After Killing Girlfriend & Committing Suicide At Arrowhead Stadium
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally gunned down his girlfriend early on Saturday and then drove himself to the team's practice facility at Arrowhead Stadium and then committed suicide in front of his general manager and coach.
According to ESPN, members of the Chiefs organization took notice that the 25-year-old appeared to be troubled inside his car. He then proceeded to enter the facility and inform someone. Shortly after, Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel reportedly contacted the police and then went outside to speak to Belcher.
Belcher's mother had been visiting the young couple and witnessed the shooting. Belcher along with his late girlfriend had a 3-month-old daughter together, who was also present at the house.
Authorities were called on Saturday morning from a woman who stated that her daughter was shot multiple times at the home, which was roughly five miles away from the Chiefs football complex. The girlfriend was said to be in her early 20s and that the couple was arguing.
"When we arrived, a lady informed us that her daughter had been shot multiple times by her boyfriend, by the daughter's boyfriend. She identified him as a Chiefs player," stated police officer Darren Snapp.
Snapp also stated that a phone call was then placed from the Arrowhead facility.
"The description matched the suspect description from that other address. We kind of knew what we were dealing with," he added.
Belcher was "holding a gun to his head" upon reaching the entrance of the practice facility.
"And there were Pioli and Crennel and another coach or employee was standing outside and appeared to be talking to him. It appeared they were talking to the suspect. The suspect began to walk in the opposite direction of the coaches and the officers and that's when they heard the gunshot. It appears he took his own life," Snapp said.
