Matt Donovan is heading over to The Originals for what ought to be an exciting story.

On Monday, TV Line shared details from executive producer Michael Narducci who teased what's about to happen when Matt makes his way into the vampire spin-off. Even though he's coming from a familiar place, the producer pointed something out that's pretty important about his showing up.

"I really hesitate to call this a crossover episode," Narducci said. "I would say it's an appearance- a special guest appearance- but I wouldn't call it a crossover and get fans believing we're doing some big epic thing. It's a small story, though we do get to see a pretty nice payoff to it."

Narducci then explained that some characters will intervene on The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, and in this case, Matt just so happens to get involved in something worth his concern.

"Mystic Falls is an important place to the Mikaelsons," the producer shared. "It's where Esther created vampires for the first time, it's a hallowed ground. For reasons related to that, we're going to see some of our characters head to that hallowed ground. They've got business they need to take care of, and it just so happens that while they're there, they cross paths with someone whose job it is to protect that city."

It sounds like Matt has a tough battle ahead of him since he's going against something that might be beyond his control.

"Matt's just a human, but he's brave, and I've always admired that about him," Narducci said. "It's interesting to see Matt come face to face with this threat level that is so far greater than what he can reasonably deal with. Yet, without flinching, he stands his ground. That's something I've always admired."

The Originals airs on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
