'Orange Is the New Black' Season 4 Premiere: Latinas Rising To Power In Litchfield? [VIDEO]
Orange Is the New Black star Selenis Leyva recently revealed that one group in the prison will try to rise to the top.
It's time for the Latinas to rise to the top of the food chain at the Litchfield Penitentiary.
Leyva, who plays Gloria Mendoza on the prison dramedy, spoke with The Huffington Post recently about what's ahead for season 4.
"I think [season 4] is going to be one of the most talked about seasons. There's a lot more conflict, there's division amongst the groups more than ever. This is the season of the rise of the Latinas and there's a lot of conflict within that," Leyva said.
It won't all be fun and games, though. While the series is known for its light-hearted moments, Leyva admitted, "There's a lot of danger lurking around the corner this season. My heart was beating fast for the six months we were shooting."
Gloria is coming off a tense season herself, with the dramatic conflict between her and Sophia (Laverne Cox). Sophia wound up in the SHU after a fight broke out between them.
"I don't think that can be repaired," Cox said in a previous interview, discussing the Sophia-Gloria relationship.
"The reasons of why Sophia ended up in solitary, the violence that she experienced, that violence is a reality for far too many people who are incarcerated, particularly trans women who are far too often incarcerated in men's prisons," Cox continued.
Cox also spoke about how season 4 really delves into the broader issues facing women in prison today.
"What's exciting in Season 4 is that I believe our writers go even deeper into some pertinent issues that affect folks who are incarcerated," she teased.
Orange Is the New Black season 4 drops Friday, June 17 on Netflix.
