'Dragon Ball Super' News And Updates: Upcoming Black Goku Arc The Darkest Dragonball Story Yet? [VIDEO]
The upcoming arc of the hit anime series, Dragon Ball Super, is almost here, and fans all over the world are very excited. Indeed, with Akira Toriyama himself stating that the new arc would be so massive, it would involve the Gods of Destruction and the Omni King himself, there is almost no doubt that the next Dragon Ball Super arc would be an epic one indeed.
Though Toriyama only unveiled a few details about the new arc during his announcement, it was enough to get fans extremely excited about the direction that the story is taking. For one, the return of Future Trunks and the existence of Black Goku have been a notable point of contention among Dragon Ball fans since their names were dropped in the announcement.
From what could be seen from numerous speculations, however, it seems like the events of the upcoming arc would be a bit darker in nature than usual. Dragon Ball has always been a lighthearted anime, famous for its slapstick humor and over-the-top action. In fact, these very things that make the franchise so endearing to fans for several decades now.
However, considering the fact that Black Goku would be a big enough threat to involve the Gods of Destruction and the Omni King, there is a very big possibility that his actions are far more sinister than other enemies which emerged before him.
Couple that with the fact that Future Trunks would seem to be returning as a much more mature character, and these speculations become a lot more plausible. Indeed, when Future Trunks' design was unveiled, many fans quickly noticed that he was drawn as a more mature character, with his attire consisting of battle-damaged clothing. If any, his appearance indicated that the future he came from was indeed one ravaged place.
Plus, Future Trunks' design also featured a different hair color, which happens to be the exact same shade of blue as Bulma's, his mother. Though many fans stated that the color change was simply due to Toriyama's quirks with the character's color palette, the possibility that it could play a role in the story is also very real. As some fans have pointed out, maybe his hair is dyed differently in memory of his mother, who was already dead, or worse, killed in the future.
With speculations emerging that Black Goku might be a God of Destruction himself, the damage that he would give the future would undoubtedly be very prominent. So prominent, in fact, that it would take the Universe's most powerful beings to aid in defeating him.
Indeed, as cliche as the idea of an evil Goku is, Dragon Ball Super might actually make a pretty great arc if Black Goku's characterization is done right. Interestingly, one of the most effective ways to make the character more impactful is to make him far more evil and sinister than all the other evil characters before him.
