Come hell or high water (generally just hell), Supernatural's Winchester brothers' are not ones to throw the towel in. Their "always keep fighting" mantra will echo throughout the season 11 finale, hopefully to the detriment of a certain stygian deity.

As of "We Happy Few," the Darkness (Emily Swallow) had thwarted every single attack by Team Free Will, whether they were looking to kill her, maim her, or trap her with the Mark. When "Alpha and Omega" rolls around, the Winchesters will have to come up with yet another plan to oust Earth's latest scourge, preferably without putting her in the ground.

Amara is, after all, the yin to God's (Rob Benedict) yang, and, presumably, breaking that balance will have dire consequences. So, not only will Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have to lock up the Darkness at the eleventh hour, they'll also have to cure an ailing Almighty. That's a tall order, even for our boys.

(Note: Billie the Reaper will pop up in the finale. While she has a definate hate on for the semignly immortal Winchesters, perhapse she can throw Amara into the "empty" instead)

"Obviously the boys, with the help of another cast of characters, try to do something in episode 23, and they're not going to give up so easily," Padalecki teased at Italy's Jus In Bello 2016, attempting to keep his comments as vague as possible. "It was written when we knew we had a season 12, so, in my opinion, it's written as part of a bigger storyline than as a specific season finale."

Don't worry; episode 23 isn't all doom and gloom. As the Darkness hopfully bugs out for good, the Winchesters' latest quest could earn them a spot in paradise. "Dark Side of the Moon" dropped them on the axis mundi, but season 12 could push them through the pearly gates.

"Given the season finale and the conversation that is had with a certain character, I would say that their mission from here on out could pave the road to heaven," Ackles teased.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who seek to cast the boys in Drag Me to Hell. Sam and Dean have both spent a PTSD-inducing amount of time down under, and they're certainly not looking to repeat the experience.

"That having been said, it seems like there is somebody - or somebodies - who might be able to pull some strings [and] who are really trying to hide us in hell," Padalecki said, tacking a distressing addendum on to Ackles' sanguine teaser.
