One of the stars of The Fosters gave some insight on the premiere episode for Season 4.

The episode revolves around Nick bringing a gun to school after he sees Mariana kissing Mat. So this will delve into the concept of gun violence happening on campus, an issue that has spread in real life as well as television.

Sherri Saum, who plays Lena on the series, dished to Mingle Media TV Network on Wednesday about the premiere episode and how she's still recovering from what happens.

"It still gives me chills. I've got chills right now!" Saum said. "I don't know what's going on!"

The actress also mentioned that this episode added more emotion since it involves kids dealing with something so frightening.

"I didn't know how intense it was going to be. I knew it was gonna be intense reading the script, but in the actual physicality of the day shooting and the feeling that you don't know if your kids are alright and me as a new mom, that just added a whole other layer for me," Saum explained.

Considering that this show has a habit of covering real-life situations in a way that's sensitive, this makes Saum proud to be a part of it.

"It's not just for shock value or to rip from the headlines," she said. "They do a really good job of making it relevant, but making it grounded and with the season opener, you always see on TV in reality kids coming out of the school with their hands up and you see it so many times, it's so ridiculous, and this episode you go inside the schools. You see what's happening."
