'Bloodline' News: Showrunners Speak Out About Future Seasons & Tax Incentive Problem [VIDEO]
Netflix still has not renewed Bloodline for a third season, but the show's creators still have a plan in mind for the show's future.
Speculation continues on whether Netflix will renew the Florida Keys drama for another season. There are a few factors possibly getting in the way at the moment: Netflix is still evaluating the value of Bloodline to its streaming service, plus the Florida tax incentives will be running up in July. Considering the series takes place entirely in the Florida Keys, that is a problem that needs to be overcome.
Bloodline creators Glenn Kessler, Todd Kessler and Daniel Zelman spoke with The Hollywood Reporter recently about the status of a possible third season and much more.
"There's not much to say. The [second season] just launched on Friday (May 27) and Netflix is evaluating how it's doing for them and it's performing and are very hopeful that there will be a future as are we," Todd said, adding that the third season will be "challenged" by the tax issue. However, he noted that the show wasn't set in the Keys for the tax incentives.
"We decided to set the show there and film the show there because it's crucial to what the show is, not because of the tax incentive, but it does affect things financially for us and the show will be challenged because of that. It makes things more difficult," he admitted. "We're hoping there will be more to come."
Zelman previously spoke about having ideas for five or six seasons of Bloodline, so it seems probable that if Netflix gives the OK, the showrunners will be ready to go.
"When we started this, we're doing a TV series, so even in our own mind, we're asking ourselves, 'Does this series have seasons in it?' " Zelman said last year. "When we pitched it and we thought about it, we were thinking five to six seasons down the line because we wanted to make sure it could hold that much material. So we certainly have ideas for where everything could go and hopefully where everything will go."
Essentially, the future of Bloodline will depend on money issues, and Netflix's satisfaction with the show's viewership.
The first two seasons of Bloodline are available to stream now on Netflix.
