'Supernatural' Season 12: How Will Crowley & Rowena Handle Gavin's Return? Mark Sheppard & Ruth Connell Explain [VIDEO]
It's time for a Supernatural family reunion, and we're not talking about Mary and her boys. The King of Hell will have to open up the guest bedroom for both his mother and his son in season 12.
The MacLeod bloodline is exactly known for their nurturing personalities. On one hand you have a witch who abandoned her school-aged son to his own deceives, on the other an oft drunk father who abused his son, Gavin (Theo Devaney). Then, of course, there is Gavin himself. Saved from a doomed ship by his father's season 9 brush with humanity, the 18th-century sailor was left to build a life for himself in the 21st. Bereft of his relatives' grasping desire for power, the Prince of Hell appeared to have a bright future ahead of him.
Soon, all three disparate MacLeods will collide, much to Crowley's (Mark Sheppard) chagrin.
"They'll be very annoying by the sound of it; usually is. It never works out well," Sheppard told EnStars at San Diego Comic-Con. "Gavin's cooking pigeons on light bulbs, I'm not sure what's going to happen next. He's kind of wandering about, isn't he? He's kind of a man out of time sort of."
Rowena (Ruth Connell), meanwhile, will have to come to terms with the notion of becoming a grandmother. After roaming the earth for at least three centuries, most women would be open to the idea of having a few rugrats. With her pride, tenacious spirit, and general disregard for those around her, however, the witch isn't exactly pulling hard candies from her purse.
"I don't think she's ready for the twin set of pearls. Is that a British saying, twin set of pearls? The granny look?" Connell laughed. "Usually Rowena's first or second thought is, 'How can I use this to my advantage?'"
We're hoping the wide-eyed Gavin remains impervious to her sway, and that of his father. Perhaps Rowena's failures with Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino/Misha Collins) and Amara (Emily Swallow) will combine with her grandson's honest demeanor to change Connell's character for the better.
"He's quite a nice boy. Maybe he will change Rowena, maybe he will change her," the actress mused. "Maybe it's easier to be a loving grandmother than it is to be a put upon mum, you know?"
