The Outlander season 2 finale is still fresh in our minds, but the Starz series is already looking towards the future. The Outlander writers room is hard at work churning out Claire's next adventure, and with new scripts comes the onerous task of casting another batch of fan favorites.

Based on the events of Diana Gabaldon's Voyager, season 3 will introduce viewers to an older version of Lord John Grey as well as the beloved Young Ian, the adventures son of Ian and Jenny. As August began, executive producer Maril Davis confirmed that auditions for both roles was in progress

"We've started casting, yes," Davis told eager fans.

Devote readers aren't the only ones itching to learn who will fill the roles. Showrunner Ron Moore is just as stoked to introduce Jamie's grown nephew.

"Looking forward to [casting] Young Ian and Older Fergus," Moore tweeted as season 2 came to a close.

Grey, meanwhile, proved so popular amongst readers that Gabaldon went on to pen the character his very own spinoff. While the events of the Lord John Grey series won't necessarily find a place in season 3, viewers will see plenty of Jamie's unlikely friend.

"Not so much," Moore told TV Line. "John Grey is in the third book, so we're kind of taking our cues from what is actually in the third book at this point...We're not averse to it. We just aren't really bringing in the other novels at this point."
