Their relationship was one which divided fans back in season six, but both Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are fans of the relationship between their characters, Rick and Michonne, on The Walking Dead.

The pair, who both have to keep quiet about whether or not their characters will continue through the show's seventh season since they were both in the season six finale lineup of potential victims for Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to beat to death, did open up about how they felt the relationship between their characters was actually more organic than some fans believed it to be.

"It's the most natural thing," Lincoln says in a special behind-the-scenes interview from the upcoming Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season release on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital. "I kept thinking, 'Of course-it's been right in front of me all the time.'"

"I think she's probably been in love with Rick for a while," Gurira added.

The two also admitted that it seemed right because Rick needed a new relationship, following his unstable ones that were shrouded in drama with both Laurie and Jessie.

"If felt like a grown-up relationship that was always meant to be," Lincoln said.

Co-executive Producer Denise Huth also spoke about things between the characters, admitting that the two characters were on a progression to eventually get together from the beginning, and that they finally realized it when they did.

"These are two characters that have known each other for a very long time and have become very important to each other. There is a great deep friendship between the two of them," she said. "I think it's just a really lovely moment of these two great friends sort of looking at each other in a moment of going, 'Oh...,'. It's really, really sweet and really nice because we don't get these moments often on The Walking Dead."

The Walking Dead season 6 will be available on DVD on Aug. 23. Season 7 premieres on AMC in October.
