‘Dragon Quest X’ Release Date, News: Square Enix Announces Japan PS4 Launch; Nintendo Switch Port To Come Out Later 2017
Game developer and publisher, Square Enix, has officially announced new details for the release of its popular Dragon Quest X title. It consists of expected launch time frame for both the Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation 4 ports, as well as the fate of the game's Wii version.
First up, the Dragon Quest X port for the PS4 is now being expected to launch in Japan sometime in summer 2017, according to Square Enix on the latest live stream, Siliconera reported. The Nintendo Switch version of the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), however, isn't due to come out until sometime between summer and fall 2017.
The latest Dragon Quest X news from Square Enix may sound exciting to some fans. But for those who are still playing the game on Wii, unfortunately, may have to transfer to another platform, particularly to the upcoming Nintendo Switch console.
Square Enix is officially terminating the support of Dragon Quest X on the Wii port, as reported by Gematsu. It is all due to the planned upgrade of the game with updates that are not compatible with the 2006 console. However, the Japanese company is looking to find a way for Wii players to easily transfer from the old port to the Nintendo Switch.
The Dragon Quest X developer did not, unfortunately, go into details about its plans or whether or not players on the platform can migrate their characters to the Switch. More news about the matter should emerge in the coming months.
Meanwhile, there is still no specific announcement regarding the release date of Dragon Quest X. But there is a planned beta test on the way that is being expected to go live sometime soon, possibly prior to the estimated launch. Fans, however, believe that the beta test will most likely happen separately for the PS4 and Switch, Niche Gamer reported.
