Amazon has just dropped the entire eight-episode first season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Wednesday, Nov. 29. However, the series originally premiered on March 17.

'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Synopsis

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was helmed by Gilmore Girls Revival creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. It follows the life of 26-year-old Miriam "Midge" Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a Jewish housewife and mom of two, residing in New York City in 1958. Her husband, Joel Maisel (Michael Zegen), is a successful businessman and a comedian. Unfortunately, he has decided to leave his wife and their kids.

One night, while Miriam was walking on the streets of the Big Apple, she chanced upon the Gaslight Café. Minutes later, she found herself giving a hilarious and heartfelt monologue in front of the crowd. In an instant, Miriam developed an interest in standup comedy.

Her first stage performance inspired her to pursue a career in standup comedy. However, Miriam knew that it would be tough to get into a world that mostly occupied by men around that time.

Other cast members from the series include Alex Borstein as Susie Meyerson, Tony Shalhoub as Abe Weissman, Bailey De Young as Imogen Cleary, Brian Tarantina as Jackie, Matilda Szydagis as Zelda, and more.

During a recent podcast Q&A session with Sherman-Palladino, the creator revealed why she decided to team up with Amazon and not a broadcast television for her new show.

"This is not a woman that broadcast television would have any interest in," said Sherman-Palladino.

Moreover, each episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel lasted for approximately 50 minutes.

"If it's not fast, I'm bored," the creator explained. "The way I write, if you do it slow, I'm watching Narcos, I'm changing the channel. It's got to have a pace and an energy and a rhythm to it."

Season 2 Renewal Confirmed

Following the series' successful first season run, Amazon has already ordered for the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In September, Sherman-Palladino inked a multi-year overall deal with the studio.

This partnership means that the creator is also expected to create original projects for Amazon other than The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Sherman-Palladino's husband, Daniel Palladino, is also working closely with her.

"The team at Amazon has allowed us to have Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy as our presidents for the next few years and for that we are eternally grateful. Amazon is the future of television and we are thrilled to tag along for the ride," said the couple.
