'The Simpsons’ Predicted Walt Disney Company Would Buy Fox
Do Bart, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson possess the power of foresight? The Simpsons have correctly predicted the major Disney and Fox business deal.
When The Prediction Aired
The Simpsons correctly made the great prediction during the Nov. 8, 1998, episode "When You Dish Upon A Star." The episode saw everyone's favorite misguided television father, Homer Simpson, cause chaos in several Hollywood celebrities' lives such as Alec Baldwin, his then wife Kim Basinger, and film icon Ron Howard. Simpson mainly wanted to become friends with the stars so that he could eventually give them a movie script. At the end of "When You Dish Upon A Star," Howard gave Simpson's script to a director on the 20th Century Fox. When viewers see the 20th Century Fox logo, they will see small writing that says: "A Division of Walt Disney Co."
Disney Buys Fox: The Reality
Nineteen years after making the prediction, the Walt Disney Company bought 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets for $52.4 billion. Several of the assets that Disney bought from Fox included numerous television shows including The Simpsons. While it is unknown if any of the Disney characters will make any official cameos in Springfield, the world is still waiting to see if Homer and Marge Simpson are ever going on a double date with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
The Simpsons And President Trump
Throughout its 29 year run, the long-running Fox animated sitcom has made bold predictions. Another prediction involved the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In The Simpsons' March 19, 2000, episode "Bart to the Future," the show fast-forwarded to the future to show Lisa Simpson as President of the United States. President Simpson spoke to her cabinet about the current state of the country following a then fictitious President Trump's time in the White House. Fifteen years after "Bart to the Future" aired; billionaire Donald Trump announced his presidential ambitions to a crowd at Trump Tower, where he eventually went on to win the election.
Any Other Future Predictions?
Last year, The Simpsons made headlines when the Fox Broadcasting Company renewed the animated series for two more seasons. The series' extension leaves plenty of time for Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie to make some predictions that could come true. The question that will be on every viewer's mind: will these future predictions be beneficial or harmful to our society?
