Tiffany Haddish To Star In Upcoming Netflix Animated Series
Female comedians are expanding their presence in the comedy world by dominating comedy clubs, arenas, television, and streaming services.
'Tuca And Bertie'
One of the most prominent female comedians who have established a significant presence is Tiffany Haddish. Variety stated that Netflix had invited the Girls Trip actress to voice one of the lead characters in the upcoming animated comedy series, Tuca and Bertie. The series follows two 30-year-old women who live in the same apartment complex.
However, there is a catch. Both the title characters are birds! According to Entertainment Weekly, Haddish is expected to voice Tuca. The entertainment news publication described Haddish's role as a 'cocky-care-free toucan.'
In addition to voicing Tuca, Haddish is also expected to be one of the show's executive producers. She will share that title with the series creator, Lisa Hanawalt.
Hanawalt was instrumental in bringing fan-favorite adult animated series BoJack Horseman to the video streaming service. According to Variety, the video streaming service gave the upcoming animated series 10 episodes. Netflix has not confirmed when the new series will be available for its customers to stream.
Tiffany Haddish's Recent Projects
The Tuca and Bertie news comes days after Haddish was featured in basketball player Kyrie Irving's trailer for his upcoming live-action basketball comedy, Uncle Drew. The film, which also stars basketball superstars Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, and Nate Robinson, focuses on a group of retired basketball players who are summoned to a basketball celebration in Harlem, New York.
Haddish also became the first celebrity spokesperson for Groupon. The actress made her debut in the company's Super Bowl commercial. In the ad, Haddish shared her passion to the audience for the app and even added that she introduced her Girls Trip co-star, Jada Pinkett Smith, to the company.
She also joined Andy Serkis in announcing this year's Oscar nominations.
Haddish's Hot Topics
In addition to making news for her entertainment deals, Haddish has also crossed the hot topics and gossip radar. Haddish stated to TV One's Uncensored that she saw Beyoncé Knowles Carter stop aspiring actresses from flirting with her husband and rap mogul, Jay-Z. She also brought the house down with an 18-minute acceptance speech at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Jan. 3 when she won the organization's Best Supporting Actress award.
Meanwhile, her ex-husband, William Stewart, denied allegations made by the comedy icon in her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, that he abused her. She also opened up regarding her childhood and revealed that she did not know how to read until she was in high school.
