'American Horror Story' Season 4 Confirmed by FX: Network Announces Another Installment After 'Coven' [VIDEO]
FX officially renewed American Horror Story for season 4 on Wednesday, just four episodes into season 3.
The horror anthology series is receiving some of its best ratings yet with its current season: American Horror Story: Coven. This season features witches living in New Orleans as the main concept.
"Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer," said FX CEO John Landgraf. "Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk and their producers . . . have done is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries. AHS: Coven is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next installment will be even better."
According to the official press release, American Horror Story: Coven averages 7.74 million viewers per week, an increase of 83% from last season's Asylum. The series is on pace to be the highest rated series in FX history among adults 18-34.
Emmy voters have not been shy about showering the horror series with nominations either. The series has led the past two years for most nominations, in addition to garnering wins for acting. Jessica Lange, arguably the show's most prominent actress, won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries/Movie in 2012 while James Cromwell won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries/Movie in 2013 for Asylum.
Lange previously said that season 4 would be her last.
In the upcoming episode of American Horror Story: Coven, Fiona (Jessica Lange) and Myrtle (Frances Conroy) will continue to fight for control of the coven. Meanwhile, Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) is haunted by her past.
American Horror Story: Coven airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
