Pretty Little Liars will be doing an episode entirely in black-and-white, according to a new report by TV Guide.

PLL executive producer Joe Dougherty recently revealed to TV Guide that the ABC Family series would be filming an episode in black-and-white, film noir style.

"ABC Family noticed what we were doing visually on the show, going for very noirlike effects and asked if we wanted to go all the way and make something special in black and white," Dougherty explained.

The episode, which is called Shadow Play, will air on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family, and it will look very different stylistically than any episode before it.

"We had to test the wardrobe to see what everything would look like," Dougherty said, explaining that some of the sets had to be reimagined. TV Guide also revealed a photo from the episode, featuring Toby (Keegan Allen) dressed in private eye clothing and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) looking like a classy film noir seductress.

Fans should expect the series' characters to continue with their "saucy banter," which will likely be heightened due to the film noir style. The genre was popular in 1940s cinema, so the characters may even speak with affected '40s accents.

"What stands out for me," says Dougherty, "is how the four Liars carry their personalities into this new world."
