'Doctor Who' Season 8 Spoilers: Steven Moffat Talks Tying Up Lose Ends In "Time Of The Doctor' Christmas Special VIDEO
The Eleventh Doctor is preparing for his next regeneration and the long awaited story of Trenzalore will have a role to play in the Time Lord's reincarnation.
When the series returns for its Christmas Special, The Doctor will uproot Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) from her holiday dinner in order to chase down a message that is being broadcast to the stars from a small, unassuming planet. However, the Doctor and his TARDIS aren't then only space travelers that have picked up the transmission - some of the Time Lord's most notorious enemies will also be making an appearance.
A recent 10-second trailer for the upcoming episode revealed that the Doctor would once again be dealing with the mystery of Trenzalore, also known as the gravesite of the Doctor.
"I haven't got used to promoting Christmas yet," Moffat told Spoiler TV after the airing of the 50th Anniversary Special. "It's a proper finale to Matt Smith, that's what it is. It is all the stories; it's the story we've been telling since he first put the bowtie on is what we're going to resolve. A lot of stuff we've left hanging we tie up there. And it's Trenzalore."
While Moffat at Co. bring back some old enemies, such as the Cybermen, the script will also have to deal with the fact that Matt Smith's Doctor is really the 13th incarnation. Considering there is a 12 regeneration cap, how will the series find a way around the rules in order to introduce Peter Capaldi as the next Doctor?
Titled "The Time of the Doctor," the Doctor Who Christmas Special will air on Dec. 25.
