There's plenty of good news for Whovians in the run up to the Doctor Who Christmas Special, "The Time of the Doctor."

Although some fans may be bracing for the end of the Matt Smith era, many will be delighted to hear that, after the Eleventh Doctor has moved on, there will be less time to wait between Doctor Who episodes.

Once Peter Capaldi is at the TARDIS controls, the BBC program will air season 8 in one continuous series, according to Digital Spy. This is an improvement upon season 6, which had a two-month break between "A Good Man Goes to War" and "Lets Kill Hitler, and season 7, which had a six-month hiatus between "The Angels Take Manhattan" and "The Bells of St. John."

Before fans can become acquainted with Capaldi's Doctor, however, Doctor Who still has to air its send off to Matt Smith. The Eleventh Doctor will expire during the upcoming Christmas Day broadcast of "The Time of the Doctor."

"It's a proper finale to Matt Smith, that's what it is," said Steven Moffat, current showrunner, according to Spoiler TV .
It is all the stories; it's the story we've been telling since he first put the bowtie on is what we're going to resolve. A lot of stuff we've left hanging we tie up there. And it's Trenzalore."

As the Doctor and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) chase a transmission across the universe, the Time Lord will meet up with some of his most famed enemies - the daleks, the cybermen, and the weeping angels. Since Trenzalore has been referred to as the old Gallifreyan's gravesite, it remains to be seen just how the Doctor manages to regenerate once more.
